Carers

Who is a carer?

You are a Carer if you provide unpaid help and support to a partner, child, friend, relative or neighbour who could not manage without your help.

The person you look after might have a physical or learning difficulty, be ill or frail, have mental health problems or misuse drugs or alcohol. You do not have to live with the person you care for to receive free support.

Why its important to let us know that you are a carer

Caring for someone can be rewarding, but it can also have an impact on your own health & wellbeing.  By identifying yourself as a carer, we can make sure you receive the right support and understanding from our team.  This also includes flexible appointment times, annual health checks and flu vaccinations to help you stay well.

We can also refer you for local support as well as share information of national services, support groups and resources. Remember; caring for yourself is an important part of caring for someone else.

Carers Passport

Carers are also eligible for discounts/concessions on more than 300 services with a Carers’ Passport. Please visit the Carers in Hertfordshire website for more information on how to apply for the Carers’ Passport

Young carers are young people who take on caring responsibilities for someone in their family, usually handled by an adult.  Carers in Herts Young Carers Service supports carers aged 8 – 18 and their families to make sure their caring responsibilities don’t stop them from having the same opportunities and social life, that other young people enjoy.
