Prescriptions

Ordering repeat prescriptions

We aim to make requesting repeat prescriptions safe, efficient, and straightforward. Please read the information below carefully before submitting a request.

How to Request Repeat Medication

All requests for repeat prescriptions must be made in writing. You can do this in one of the following ways:

  • NHS App, SystmOnline, or Airmid App (You will need to register to use this service)
  • Online consultation using our AccuRx service (see link below)
  • Your nominated pharmacy, if they offer a repeat ordering service.
  • Repeat request form submitted in person at the surgery

Prescription requests cannot be taken by telephone, except in exceptional circumstances where this has been agreed in advance with your GP. We kindly ask that you do not request reception staff to make exceptions to this policy.

Urgent Medication Requests

If you need medication urgently, for a life-threatening or serious health condition (see list of eligible same day medications below), please submit your request via Accrux online consult (link below).

  • Clearly state which medication you need urgently
  • Explain why it is required
  • Include any other relevant information.

IMPORTANT: Urgent requests will be assessed during clinic hours and, where appropriate, a prescription will be issued the same day (subject to the time of submission).  Non-urgent requests will be processed as a routine prescription request.

Prescription Processing Times

  • Routine repeat prescriptions are processed within 3 full working days, starting the day after request is received.
  • Weekends and bank holidays are not included in this timeframe.
  • Ideally, requests should be made 7 days before medication is due.

Prescription Status

Our reception team can no longer check or confirm whether a prescription is ready for collection. This includes prescriptions sent to your nominated pharmacy.  Please do not ask them to make an exception.

To check your prescription is ready:

  • Use the NHS app or your online account (if requested digitally)
  • Contact or visit your pharmacy directly

Many pharmacies offer text alerts or app notifications when prescriptions are ready.
