Clarification Regarding Repeat Medication Requests

Important: Important Notice for Patients

We would like to clarify the recent changes to the repeat medication ordering process, as there appears to have been some misunderstanding about how these arrangements operate.

The principle behind this change is for patients, who are able to do so, to take responsibility for ordering their own repeat medications. This approach helps ensure that patients remain informed, engaged, and actively involved in managing their healthcare needs.

Requesting Repeat Medications

Patients should order repeat medication using one of the approved methods:

  1. Online via our website (preferred method)
  2. Using the NHS app or other approved online service
  3. Filling out a paper request at one of our branches

Support for Vulnerable Patients

We understand that some patients may be unable to manage their own prescription ordering. For this reason, we will continue to accept prescription requests from pharmacies on behalf of patients who are:

  • Housebound
  • Living with dementia
  • Living with a learning disability
  • Living with a serious mental illness
  • Receiving end of life care
  • Otherwise identified as vulnerable and unable to order their medication independently

Clarifying Misunderstandings

We are aware that incorrect information about these changes has been shared locally.  To provide assurance, we would like to clarify the following:

“All patients are expected to order their own medication regardless of their circumstances”

This is incorrect.  Vulnerable patients who are unable to manage the repeat medication ordering process independently will continue to receive appropriate support.

“The Practice is stopping all repeat medication”

This is incorrect.  Patients will continue to receive any repeat medications that are appropriately requested and authorised.

“The Practice is stopping all batch prescriptions”

This is incorrect.  We will continue to support batch prescribing for patients who are suitable for this arrangement, as it can provide a convenient and efficient way to manage ongoing medication needs.

Blister Packs and Home Delivery

Arrangements and decisions regarding blister packs and home delivery services remain the sole responsibility of your chosen community pharmacy.  Please contact them directly.

Need Additional Support?

If you believe you, or someone you know, may qualify for additional support, but the circumstances are not already known to the Practice, please contact us.

We will review and ensure appropriate assistance is provided, as necessary.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we support patients manage their healthcare effectively.
